Master of Teaching Spanish as a Second Language

Master of Teaching Spanish as a Second Language
The University of Alcala organizes this Master destined to university graduates and language teaching professionals who wish to obtain a solid education, combining the most up to date elements of theory and practice, and which leads to a qualification.

The University of Alcalá is a pioneering training institution for teachers and researchers in the field of Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (TSFL). Its academic portfolio includes the non-regulated master’s degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (MTSFL), taught now for over 25 years and with a markedly international vocation. Our University also offers a specialization course in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (STSFL) which, though shorter than a master’s degree, has the same standards of excellence. The leaders of these programs are two internationally reputed linguists, Professors Ana María Cestero and Francisco Moreno.

The non-regulated Master’s Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (MTSFL) is taught on-line so that students living outside Spain may study for it from their own country if they wish. All students need to take the course is a computer and internet connection. The degree includes a minimum of 60 hours teaching practice, which may be completed at one of our partner centers in 17 cities in Spain or at a center in students’ countries of residence. A limited number of on-line teaching practice places are also available. To be able to study the MTSFL, students must have an advanced level of Spanish and hold a diploma, licenciature or undergraduate degree in any field of knowledge, although preference will be given to graduates of language or literature and language teachers.

The teaching staff on all our programs are drawn from diverse areas of the SFL world (university lecturers from institutions in several countries, such as the universities of Alcalá and Heidelberg; authors of teaching material for the most prestigious SFL publishers; researchers and teachers from the Cervantes Institute and private centers in Hispanic and non-Hispanic countries). This guarantees students a full, pluricultural and multifocal overview of this exciting field of applied linguistics, as well as training based on theoretical excellence and practical knowledge of the day-to-day running of an SFL classroom, whether in an immersion or foreign-language context. The three programs contain specific subjects about using new Relation, Information and Communication Technologies (RICT).

You can find more information about the program and the teaching staff in the web. Please, if you have any enquiries get in touch with our secretary in the mail
